While many small businesses have passed their ownership from generation to generation, it is rare to find a tour operator that has done so. But, Vasco Travel is proud to be known as a family-run travel company in the Indian inbound tourism market . Started its journey in 1990, the company today is in the hands of the third generation. Owned and managed by the Abbott Family, Vasco Travel has a long association with the tourism industry, even before independence. The family had a hotel with the name “Abbott Hotel” before partition – the area which is now in Pakistan. However, today it has nothing there. It was just a point of initiation from where the legacy of “travel” moved to India after independence and with the hospitality experience, the foundation of Vasco travel was laid down here. The seed for ‘inspiring travel experience’ was sown by Mr A K Abbott, the chairman who retired from Indian Airlines as commercial manager, North India. From him, the legacy transferred to his son and managing director, Mr C K Abbott, who has been in the industry since 1975. Following his father’s footsteps, young and dynamic Mr Vikas Abbott, managing director, carried forward the family legacy, when he joined the organisation 17 years ago as director – sales & marketing. And today, he proudly says, “Travel is in my blood”. This way, Vasco Travel has set an example of being a successful family-run travel company, focussing mainly on experimental travel.
